Grinding Trick

October 12th, 2007

Now we’re moving in to new territory. You’ve practiced the “basics”
in the previous five tricks and now it’s time to up the game a little and
go a step further.

Take extra care now. No need to try any of this unless you want to and feel
that it’s within your ability.

This is about “grinding” – basically tricks that can be carried out on
things other than snow. For the purposes of this trick, a rail.

If you’ve got Trick 1 off pat, you’re half way there for this one.

If there’s one around – find a nice rail on which to try and practice this
trick. A rail that’s not too high.

Now, ride your board along the snow towards the rail keeping nice and
controlled and in a straight line. Nothing fancy yet.

As you approach the rail, time your take-off and make sure you get
a good one, crouching slightly. Then when you make contact with the rail,
simply slide along it.

Jump off at the end of the rail back on to the snow landing squarely
bending your knees slightly to lessen the impact.

This trick is harder than before and will most likely take you more
practice to master it. As will the next trick…..
