If you go into any snowboard shop they will probably tell you to let them deal with it, and while that might be good advice if you want to go about repairing small core shots at home.. we are going to tell you how to go about doing it.

" The warmer the board is, the better the repair will stick " bear this in mind when you go about repairing anything on your board.

What your going to need

1. P-TEX candles in either black or clear depending on your color
A basic face mask for toxic fumes
an X acto knife
a rasp file and sand paper
matches
tin can
a heat gun

You should be able to find a p-text and metal scraper at a snowboard shop but the rest get it from the hardware place
you want a gun for melting it. not a real gun you know what i mean.

Ok lets get cracking

1.Put down a cloth and empty can, make sure your not wearing flip flops or you might burn your toes.. Clean the core shot area and soften it with your heat gun ( or a hair dryer ) The P-tex will adhere better to the material. So with the X-acto expose more of it and texture the base material around it with your medium grit sandpaper. This is very similar to a surfboard repair.

2. If the metal edge is exposed, dab superglue on the metal teeth for a more bondable surface. let the glur dry before you begin

3. Reheat the repair area with heat gun, Light the P-text candle over the tin can if you are going to drop the p-tex without the glue gun. If you get nasty carbon built up the black stuff.. it means theres too much oxygen entering in and its burning too low. Keep the lit end of the candle close to the tin can. Metal scraper or board base so less air gets under the flame. Then Roll of any big globs of carbon onto the side of tin can before they enter teh core shot. Carbon globs wont hurt your baord but they make for a weaker bond, look like crap and suggest to people that your a hack.

4. If you went with the glue gun, slowly feed the p-tex through the opening while pressing the trigger, p-tex melts slower and cools faster than glue so when your going dont stop.

5. Let the P-text cool and 15 mins later then smooth it with a rasp file and snadpaper... after if you want to get the best results take it into a shope for a base grind. or you can just wax it.

There are number of pros and cons to the latest lacing technology that is being used on snowboarding boots. Lets take a look at some of the ones that are popular and what is good and what is not about them.

Boa Technology

They are used a lot now days on boots you actually can find them on various sport related boot for hockey and horse boots. The system behind them is stainless steel cable that is wound on to a lace reel which replaces regular shoelaces. The reel controls the cable and as you rotate it the cable tightens up the boot making it fit right.

Pros - Super easy to use and makes for getting your foot in and out convenient.

Cons - Trying to customize the fit can get a bit tricky as its pretty straight forward way of tightening them.

Zone Lacing

Most boots actually use one regular set of laces and so you will be spend more time doing these up than the boa ones. Now days a lot of manufactuers have come out with with a integrated zone lacing system how this works is you have two seperate lace handles which let you tighten your upper and lower areas of the boot this is so you can customize how tight to have your boot

Pros - Nice a quick for making small changes with pull handles

Cons - You have to find a place for your dangling laces

Lace Handles

We've all messed up our hands on frozon laces, they have tried to prevent this nowdays by using softer laces but some companies have gone to lace handles. The way this works is it lets you connect both the lace ends in one plastic handle which then really helps you when it comes to pulling your laces tight.

Pros - If you wear your boots tight the handle makes it nice and simple

Cons - You can over tighten and well it requires a bit more thought than turning a dial like on some of the other boots. So unless your into reading manuals.. you might look for another solution.

Unless you have been snowboarding for a long time you probably jump in and grab the first board that looks cool, and heck who can dis you for that, there is nothing wrong in having a good looking board. Yet there are mistakes made when buying snowboards that you should avoid here are 5 mistakes

1. The Board is Expensive so it must be Good - Shops love shoppers so you have to have your wits about you certain boards are for certain people

2. I picked up a board for $50 from a garage sell so it must be good - How old is it? Are their parts for it? Keep up with new technology dont try going down hill on something old and worn

3. I got this board at an annual blowout sale - Yeah and it has no edges

4. My friend has this board so I bought the same - You buddy is different to you, in size and weight remember that

5. The look of this board is amazing I must have it. - Cool graphics pull you in but a crap board takes you down. You must look to see that you have the right width requirement and size
