It doesn’t matter if your a newbie or a pro, improving your game plan should always be on your mind. It’s all about making large progression, pushing the envelope and enjoying yourself doing it safetly. I have put together some steps you can go through when you get out on the snow.
7 Tips For Tackling Steeps
1. You need to lean more forward on steeper slopes - Oh you better believe in unless you want to end up in a snowball spiral that 90% of your weight needs to be on your front hip and leg
2. Become a Master of the Hop Turn - This is so vital, you need to make the edge transfer from toe to heel or the other way around, Make sure to save up your energy and explode into a turn getting your new edge back on the ground fast
3. Slow your speed freak ass down - Ok you might be able to play guitar like steve vai but put the guitar down and slow your butt down, start with the small turns and feel out the snow, Once you hit high speed there is no backing out
4. Get a grips on doing the feather - There is a full board slide through the whole turn. Most people know how to slide the end of their turns but shaving speed off equally through the turn without pivoting your board across the fall line is key. Practise on groomers.
5. Become hands on - Get your hands dirty and dig your hands arms and hip and knees into the slope to make sure your not sliding down the slope
6. Snow conditions are critical -This is so vital, hard snow on a steep face can be super dangerous its like black ice.
7. Squeegee it baby! - Alright lets say you end up going ass over tit on the way down try to get on your heel and slowly slip your sorry ass down the hill
In Action: Find a nice steep mountain and go down it with controlled hop turns all the way to the bottom keep your speed down
