Your gonna need them, so how do you know which bindings are the right ones to buy, what should you look for and what should you avoid?
1. When it comes to Bindings, I would go with a boot that works for you and then find really good bindings that fit with your boots
2. Use all available online and offline resource to make a better choice -If you can try before you buy, ask the sales rep all the questions you need and spend the time to get it right
3. You should not hesitate to spend quality money to find the bindings that are good. Expensive though doesnt mean the best, i.e Shaun White won the Olympic Gold wearing $140 Burton custom bindings
4. When it comes to fitting the boot to the binding you want to get your boot centered over the binding allowing for heel and toe overhang. If you go with a 2 piece like baseplate and highback or flux or burton then use the supplied tow ramp for centering. If you go with 3 piece, so baseplate, highback and heel cup.. like rome and drake then use the highback loop to adjust the back and forth to make sure the boot is centered
5. Check for gaps in the heel area and on the sides of the boot or places where you have to force the boot to fit. Make sure you can center the straps over the boot to eliminate pressure points and to allow for a comfortable fit. Stap and highback adjustablity are vital to the comfort and fit of your bindings, Highbacks come in all shapes, flexes and sizes and straps provide a variety of cushioning along the toe-cap and toe strap options. Pick a combination that works for you
6. Women should ride women’s specific bindings. You see womens bindings tend to be a little softer and narrower in the base to accomodate a womens boot. The highbacks are typically lower and designed for the anatomical needs of a womens foot and lower calf muscle.
7. When it comes down to choosing between a few options that work well for you go ahead and pick what you think looks the coolest. Whether you are on the charlift or mid air on the back side spin you want to be stoked every time you look down at your new bindings.
