I feel the need the need for speed! Maverick isn’t the only one at some point you might want to increase the speed that you head down the mountain snowboarding. Now the fastest known record for speed on a snowboard was 125 mph getting up to this speed requires a lot of factors to be in place such as good snow conditions, rubber suits and helmets that are like a high speed racer.
So maybe you dont want to go that fast but you want to learn how to pick up speed in various conditions.
Optimum Conditions - Make sure you have lots fo room, the best conditions for learning to ride fast involve a hill which is uncrowded, try to get there early in the morning in the week not weekends. Get comfortable with very high speeds, you need to get comfortable with medium high speeds and then spend time cruising a bit faster than you would normally go. Once you feel everything is fine, real and enjoy it.
Stay Low - GO nice and low bend your knees, the lower you are to the snow the less chance there is that the wind will slow you down. With your knees bent around 30% you will do better than bending at the waist.
Turn Less - It might seem obvious but getting your board sideways is the worst way to lose control at speed. You board can deal with vibration and chatter much better nose first, when you go sideways to the fall line your begging to be bounced around
Foresight 20/20 - When your driving a car usually your not looking at the nose your looking ahead, same rules apply here. Look where you are going to be in a second or two ahead, and your body muscle will take care of variations. IF you concentrate on the snow right in front of you there no way you can adjust edge pressure in time to avoid tragedy
Friend in speed - Try riding with another buddy, that can improve your overall speed, some of the best riders say there speed came from trying to keep up with a friend.
