4 Things to Do When Buying Boots

September 26th, 2007

You gotta get a decent pair of boots there is no two ways about it.

Todd Roberts who is the owner of Zj Boarding House based in L.A California said this

" If the snowboard boots don’t fit properly then the rest of the components performance are compromised "

So what should you do when it comes to buying a new pair of snowboard boots?

1. Take Your Time - Look slow it down, put aside some good time to research the various brands that are out there, get an idea of your pricing range and then if you are close to a store in your town take a few hours and try out different models. Try to even find out from a boot fitter what is right for you. Each of the shells are cut differently so that nice expensive pair might look good but it doesnt mean its going to be the best fit for you. Try on a lot of brands

2. Pull out the Liner - Ok inside every boot is a liner which can be pulled out, its like a giant firm sock. Take it out and try on the inner liner without the boot shell. There should be no more than a finger fit between your calf and the back of the liner. Be careful because the foam will adjust after a few weeks of wearing, so going a little bit smaller than your normal pair of shoes. Now every boot should fit with your big toe just barely touching the end of the liner. Eer liner will pack out at least a hafl size over the life of the boot, so make sure to start with a boot that is a little smaller than your regular shoe. If the liner doesnt want to come out, dont force it, not every liner can be removed.

3. Warm them Up - Put the liner back in the shell and lace up the boot with your foot inside and then let them get warm, flex forward and if your heel lifts more than a playing card its too much, you want it firm

4. Don’t Skimp - Like any sport it can get expensive buying all the gear but if you can only get low end equipment, then make sure you buy in this order, cheaper board, cheaper bindings, pants and jacket but dont hold back on boots, they are the foundation and you will tell the difference if you skimp.
